    Methodology & sources

Our estimates use country-specific rules, not a flat percentage. Sources reviewed 7 November 2026. Coverage and assumptions are part of every result.

    How the estimate works

For researched monthly models, the selected month's deductions are projected over twelve regular payments; this is not a complete annual liability and excludes bonuses unless explicitly stated. Annual-assessment models report a monthly average instead. Required inputs and open issues are retained from the supplied research. Caveated models display an estimate note and are not indexed as verified pages. Monthly salary is annualized by multiplying by twelve. Countries with within-year contribution changes are calculated month by month using dated caps; annual net divided by twelve is an average, not the liability of each month. The model applies supported deductions or credits, calculates income tax, then adds employee contributions and modeled levies. Annual net income is gross less these deductions. Monthly net is annual net divided by twelve; effective deductions are total deductions divided by gross income.

    Coverage is not completeness

81 sourced models are currently available. The US and Canada are federal-only and omit state/local and provincial taxes. German taxable income is approximated from standard deductible contributions; low-wage insurance and personalized payroll rules are not modeled. Australian low-income Medicare reductions are pending, so income at or below A$50,000 is not estimated. No result is offered where mandatory figures or a supported scenario are incomplete. Caveated research estimates are explicitly labelled. Additional models cover the stated nationality, pension affiliation and salary range only; twelve equal monthly payments are assumed. The scenario must be confirmed before calculating.

    Comparisons and rounding

Amounts remain in each country’s own currency. Equal numeric salaries are not economically equivalent; we do not supply live exchange rates. Displayed amounts are rounded to whole currency units while calculations retain precision, except Germany’s statutory whole-euro income tax formula. This is an annual planning tool, not payroll withholding software.

SSC deductibility: no source checked states it explicitly. PwC lists no SSC deduction, and the Malta tax tables are applied to gross emoluments, so the model treats SSC as **not deductible**.

Statutory bonuses (twice-yearly statutory bonus and income supplement, paid March/June/September/December) are taxable and could be added to gross. Their 2026 amounts were not verified.

Monthly SSC depends on the number of Mondays in the pay month (53-week years exist), which is common payroll practice but not confirmed by an official source here. The calculator can use the 52/12 average.

The 2025 single bands were not re-verified, so the size of the Budget 2026 change is not quantified.

**Withholding mechanics:** art. 51 leaves the withholding percentage to regulation, and the reglament was not read. The calculator uses annual liability / 12. Actual payroll withholding may differ, with the difference settled in the annual 300 return.

**CASS ceiling:** no maximum base was found in the CASS law or in secondary sources. The calculator assumes no ceiling. This needs CASS confirmation.

The exact art. 46 bonus wording (whether it is computed on the quota attributable to employment income when other income exists) needs a check for mixed-income users.

No social security increase was found for 2026. The phased increases ended with the 1 Jan 2025 step, but this needs Board confirmation.

**Education levy:** both the 2.5% and 5% bands come from the 1994 Act as applied by the Board. The government signalled a levy expansion in June 2026, but no enacted change was found.
